Sightline Goes To Reno
In late February and again in early August, Sightline personnel traveled to Reno
to provide consulting services and training to the Airfield Maintenance personnel there. (I have
to say the weather was beautiful there both times!)
In February, we were able to diagnose why the markings were not adhering properly.
It also, rather serendipitously, gave us the opportunity to observe the striping operation; and we
noted some problems that we were able to help correct.
In August, we did a little more than just talking about what the marking crew
should do. We measured, we calibrated, adjusted, got down on our hands and knees, and demonstrated
what paying attention to the details can do to improve the overall product of the airfield markings.
A night tour of the airfield demonstrated some problems with glass bead application, something that
was easily remedied once the crew was given the right information.
Naturally, we gave our Markings Matter presentations, both in February and August
(new personnel to the marking operation wanted the training!) Additionally, our training manual was
introduced to the group, a tool that will provide long term reference to the current staff as well
as new hires.
Scott Harkema, the Assistant Airfield Maintenance Manager, stated "All involved
felt that the markings evaluation and the markings application training will prove to be extremely
valuable in achieving our goal of having a safer and better-appearing airfield at Reno-Tahoe
International Airport." Thanks, Scott, for the kind words and for having us back. We hope to see
you in February when we'll be in Reno for the ACC Design Symposium.
