What's New
The Glass Bead Non-Incident occurred quite uneventfully at Renton Municipal Airport in
early September. Actually that was the goal! Sightline teamed up with everyone else involved with the
runway overlay project where The Boeing Company is a demanding and watchful tenant. Like Boeing Field
and Paine Field, Renton Municipal is under the microscope whenever a painting operation occurs due to
previous experiences with glass beads being ingested into brand new jet engines. Sightline was engaged
by the airport to minimize the potential problems. The prime contractor (ICON) and their striping
subcontractor (Stripe Rite) were cooperative, proactive, and successful during the application of the
final markings at Renton Municipal Airport, as was the clean up operation that involved three vacuum
sweepers and numerous other pieces of equipment designed to pick up the glass beads that got away from
the painted lines. It's always a challenge, but great when all work together for a job well done!
