We're Writing the Book on Markings!
By Mike Speidel
Sightline was recently awarded a project from the Innovative Pavement Research Foundation to provide a
"Best Practices Handbook" regarding the installation and maintenance of airfield markings. The handbook will serve as a
reference for the entire industry. Sightline has assembled a well qualified research team representing several companies:
      RESEARCH TEAM PARTICIPANTS
    Chuck Carneal, Safety Coatings, Inc.
    Gene Hawkins, Hawkins Engineering
    Fred Peil, FOL Tape
Steve Quilty, Bowling Green State University
    Cynthia Randazzo, Rohm and Haas
    Donna Speidel, Sightline
    Michael Speidel, Sightline
We are thrilled with this opportunity to provide the industry with an in-depth look at airfield markings, and
will be kicking off the first stage of the project by hosting a roundtable discussion in Kansas City, June 15th, 2006. The goal of
the roundtable discussion in Kansas City is for the research team to gather input from a broad cross-section of industry professionals
regarding airfield pavement marking issues. We expect to provide industry users with the best practices for airfield marking design,
installation, and maintenance. Findings derived from the roundtable discussion will be published in Sightline's Summer 2006 webletter.
I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank the Academy, and of course my mother for believing in my dreams since
I was a boy of one day achieving "research team member" status. I can't thank my girlfriend enough for supporting me through the
tough times, and my battle with illiteracy. Thanks to all of the Sightline webletter fans (The music is playing now- I've run out of time),
without you this wouldn't be possible. Thank you for this award!
