What's New?
By Mike Speidel
When we were asked by the Hawaii Department of Transportation to conduct on-site training in February, we knew we’d have volunteers asking to carry our luggage. It was tough duty, but somebody had to do it. From February 10th through February 26th, Sightline moved from island to island in paradise. We traded bitterly cold weather back in Virginia, for training in t-shirts and palm trees. We were most grateful.
Training on the best practices of maintaining airfield markings was held at four separate airports: Honolulu (Oahu), Lihue (Kauai), Kona (Hawaii), and Kahului (Maui). Over 120 people from several organizations received the three-day training that included classroom and practical field training.
Layout of specialty markings included some geometry, chalk lines, and great attitudes. All gained an understanding of how the markings are supposed to be applied.
Later calibration of equipment (some brand new) saw "best practices" come to life. Maintenance, operations, firefighting personnel, engineers, private consulting engineers, and airport management participated in the training.
Mahalo to all who made it happen!
