Greetings from Sightline!
Sightline is a team of Airfield Marking Consultants. We don't paint; instead we are marking experts, working with the industry to improve marking systems worldwide.
The purpose of this seasonal publication, if it is new to you, is to inform about issues regarding airport markings. Thanks to all of you who subscribed through our website at sightline.us.
After a very mild winter, Spring has definitely sprung and paint trucks are firing up everywhere. Be sure to send your staff to an Airfield Marking Symposium with the money you saved on deicing chemicals and snow removal this winter. The San Antonio AMS is just two weeks away!
Here's where you can spot us:
- ICAO Workshop on Air Navigation Visual Aids May 7-11, Lima, Peru
- San Antonio AMS, May 14-16, San Antonio, TX
- IQPC Airfield Engineering and Asset Management 2012 June 20-21, Asiaworld - Expo, Hong Kong
- Newark AMS, July 9-11, Newark, NJ
- Denver AMS, September 17-19, Denver, CO
- Daytona Beach AMS, November 12-14, Daytona Beach, FL
The utility of home-made bead dispensing contraptions has been curtailed. FAA guidance literature exclusively allows equipment designed for proper attachment to the marking machine, which in effect prohibits hand application as well. The only things "handtossed" at airports these days are Domino's pizza crust and checked baggage. More>>

There are some things that are unavoidable in life... others just require the right kind of experience to foresee the otherwise inevitable. More>>
This article is a reprint from the Winter 2008 webletter - FOUR years ago! However, we're reprinting it because it's still going on each year and it is as relevant as ever (and we can't say it any better than this).
